Our Activities
We help protect tropical rainforests by connecting landscape restoration, sustainable agriculture and practical support for local communities.
Adopt a treeWe seek solutions that protect both the forest and people
World Green Lungs helps local residents introduce sustainably managed agriculture and forestry so that they do not have to aimlessly burn down primary rainforests.
Growing crops under trees in newly planted forest stands makes it possible to obtain food, utility wood and long-term livelihoods without further destroying the landscape.
Our goal is not only to plant trees. We want to create a functional landscape, which can feed local residents, protect the soil, retain water and at the same time restore natural ecosystems.
Why is this important?
If people have no other livelihood option, burning the forest becomes the fastest way to obtain land. Without changes in land management, this cycle continues to repeat.
Rainforest protection must therefore be linked with concrete help for the people, who live in the landscape.
Sustainable Agriculture
We support cultivation methods that protect the soil, reduce erosion and enable local families to earn a living without further burning of the forest.
Agroforestry
Agroforestry connects trees, crops and utility plants into one functional system. Such a landscape is more resilient, fertile and stable.
Landscape Restoration
Planting trees helps restore degraded soil, retain water, create shade and gradually return life to damaged areas.
We help stop the cycle of forest burning
To succeed in saving rainforests, it is crucial to eliminate malnutrition, poverty and the pressure to constantly acquire new agricultural land. These factors force local residents to burn down the rainforest faster and faster.
Once a sustainable livelihood source is established, people are not forced to destroy further parts of the forest. Trees become part of farming management, not an obstacle.
Such a solution helps people, nature and climate. It restores soil, protects water, strengthens biodiversity and at the same time creates more stable conditions for local communities.
Ecosystem services have real value
We develop procedures and methodology for evaluating natural resources for providing ecosystem services in tropical regions. A forest is not just an area with trees. It is
