The goal of the project is to restore degraded burned forest areas and their use for producing food, timber, and biofuels for local communities.

In Africa, newly planted commercial forests grow four times faster than in Europe. Project Balanga therefore combines landscape restoration with practical benefits for people living in the area.

Why is the project important?

Protection of African rainforests can only be ensured if hunger is eliminated and a sustainable forestry and agricultural system is created.

Soil restoration Rejuvenation of degraded areas after burning and their return to long-term meaningful use.

Production for the community Use of restored areas for food, timber, biofuels, and support for local residents.

Rainforest protection Reducing pressure on burning rainforests by introducing sustainable management.

Administrative bans are not enough

Administrative bans on further burning of rainforests will never be effective, because hunger and the struggle for survival are stronger and will always remain stronger. Real rainforest protection must offer a real alternative: land, sustenance, stability, and sustainable management.
